Collections | Musée de l'Hydraviation

The collections of the Musée de l’Hydraviation include many rare pieces that allow us to retrace the history of seaplanes and that contribute to the museum’s national, European and international recognition, as well as a vast collection of documents.

Our mission is to conserve and safeguard this unique aeronautical heritage.

Some resources require meticulous restoration, which can be done thanks to the City of Biscarrosse and, of course, patrons who want to get involved in the region’s cultural, historical and tourism development.

Grumman Albatross of the Musée de l'Hydraviation

Grumman Albatross collection

The Grumman Albatross is the symbol of search and rescue operations at sea. It is a very rare amphibious seaplane, with impressive dimensions: 60’8” (18.49 meters) long by 24’3” (7.39 m) high, with a wingspan of 80 feet (24.36 m).

Its restoration took many months of work and the collaboration of various partners, including Aerocampus Aquitaine and the designation by the Aquitaine region as a “New Opportunity Skills Development Project.”

A documentation center open to the public

Our Documentation Center, which has expanded its holdings thanks to donations and acquisitions, is accessible to anyone. Whether you are a researcher, a student, a historian or just an curious person, you can view its collections of technical manuals, flight logs, manufacturers’ files, French and foreign press coverage, etc., on site, by appointment.
